Named for Job, the biblical character in the Old Testament, who endured great suffering. There is unanimous agreement that the shape of these beads represents tears, however 'who's' tears is a point of disagreement since they are also known as Saint Mary's tears, David's tears, and Christ's tears. For centuries, this tropical wild grass seed has been gathered as a food as well as for decorative craft and jewelry making material. When they are harvested they already have a polished sheen and a natural hole through them.
